In college football, No. 7 Alabama stayed unbeaten with a 56-23 rout of No. 16 Mississippi State, as Keelon Russell accounted for four total touchdowns. No. 25 Missouri delivered the upset of the week, trouncing No. 8 Florida 45-17 to snap a nine-game losing streak against ranked opponents. And No. 5 Ohio State escaped Kinnick Stadium with a 31-14 win over No. 14 Iowa behind Julian Sayin’s 324-yard, three-touchdown performance, with two scores going to Jeremiah Smith.
 
On the NFL side, the 49ers stayed perfect at 4-0 with a 24-14 win over the Broncos behind two Brock Purdy touchdown passes. The Rams pulled off a wild fourth-quarter comeback, scoring the final 14 points to beat the Eagles 24-20 after trailing by 10 in Philadelphia. And the Panthers delivered the statement win of Sunday Night Football, stunning the Lions 32-26 behind a career night from Tetairoa McMillan, who hauled in 14 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns from Bryce Young.

Week 1 delivered chaos from the jump. The Seahawks opened their Super Bowl defense with a gritty 13-10 comeback win over the Patriots, but the story wasn’t as clean as the scoreboard. Sam Darnold exited early with a hip injury, forcing Drew Lock into relief, while Drake Maye unraveled with three fourth-quarter interceptions. Down in Melbourne, the 49ers made history in the NFL’s first-ever regular season game in Australia, routing the Rams 27-7 behind three touchdown passes from Brock Purdy and a big debut from new addition Mike Evans.
 
Elsewhere, Caleb Williams and the Bears put on a show, outlasting the Panthers 59-37 in the highest-scoring Week 1 game in NFL history, while first-year head coaches Mike LaFleur and Klint Kubiak both picked up wins in their debuts with the Cardinals and Raiders.
